Room #228

After 20 hours of great physical research hours, I have finally completed my journey and purpose of it all. I observed several hours in Mr. Hayes' classroom in room 228 and had countless number of hours with my cousin Hamul and really getting hands on with the subject. I got some really great information out of the classroom i observed. The classroom i went to was all SD kids who have disabilities which are minor or mild. These students actually use the same book as us which I found to be pretty amazing, I thought they had different lower leveled books. In reality, they use our same books, but they do not really go too much in detail witch it. Another thing i noticed was the design of their classroom were just cool. It is filled witch all kinds of great furniture that are their to keep the kids motivated to go into the class and work. Lastly, I found out that most of the students are quite smart they just have slight problems with laziness or not saying attention or staying on track, but clearly that is not their fault.

Documentary

Here is a link to a great documentary that i watched about a week ago to help give me even more research and information on special children and their education and daily lives.

The Weekend

I spend most of my weekends going to work with my father but i am taking the next couple of week off to spend some time with my cousin Hamlet. The reason i am doing this is because Hamlet is my cousin who suffers from autism and some other minor disabilities. So last weekend which was 2/4 - 2/5 i tried to spend as much time with him as possible to observe him and experiment with anything i can with the time i had. I took him to the Glendale Galleria to really observe his social skills. I did not really want to force him to converse with others because he has trouble with that, but when the time came up he did just fine. I also got to see how my grandparents treat him as well and there daily lives. The minting i got out of the weekend was it is not good to put these children down in front of everybody if they do something wrong, it must be done when you are alone so the child is not embarrassed and they will understand.

Introduction

Hello my name is Gary Pogosian and I want to welcome you to my blog. I created this blog to help represent the physical portion of my senior project and display and write about anything about it. My subject is focused on the success of disabled children in special education classrooms, but a small portion on social and parenting ways for the children as well. So follow my through my journey as I blog my way through it!
